Parashurama is the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu in Hinduism and he is one of the chiranjeevis who will appear at the end of the Kal Yuga.
Like other incarnations of Vishnu, he was foretold to appear at a time when overwhelming evil prevailed on the earth. The Kshatriya class, with weapons and power, had begun to abuse their power, take what belonged to others by force and tyrannize people. Parashurama corrects the cosmic equilibrium by destroying these warriors. Parashurama is also the Guru of Bhishma, Dronacharya, and Karna. He is also referred to as Rama Jamadagnya, Rama Bhargava and Veerarama in some Hindu texts .
According to hindu legends , Parashurama was born to a Brahmin Sage Jamadagni and his Kshatriya wife Renuka. Parashurama was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva and his often depicted as carrying an axe which is said to be given to him by Lord Shiva.
The sage had a cow named Surabhi also called a Kamdhenu which is known to bless one with all that one desires.
A king named kartavirya Arjuna came to know of this and forcibly tried to take away this magical cow.
When Parashurama came to know of this he challenged the king to battle. During the battle he killed the entire army and king kartavirya.
In revenge for their father’s death, Kartavirya's son killed Jamadagni in Parashuram’s absence. Furious and hurt by their act, Parashurama went ahead killing all the king’s sons and corrupt Haihaya Kings and warriors on the earth.
It is believed that the main motto of Vishnu’s sixth incarnation was to free the earth’s burden by assassinating the sinful and irreligious kings who neglected their duties.
Parshuram is also known as immortal, who fought back the advancing ocean, which was going to hit the lands of Kokan and Malabar. The area between Maharashtra and Karnataka is known as ParshuramKshetra.
Parshuram was known for his love for righteousness. Another story mentioned in the Kalki Purana believes that Parshuram still resides on the earth. It states that Parshuram will be the martial guru of Shri Kalki, who is going to be the last avatar of Lord Vishnu in kalyug.
